Autoimmune Haemolytic Anaemia

The challenge

Investigating Autoimmune Haemolytic Anaemia (AIHA) is particularly complex, especially due to its pathogenesis. Ensuring that laboratory staff—both in local hospital transfusion laboratories  and specialist reference centres —apply a consistent, evidence-based approach is paramount for patient safety.

The solution

A blended mix of scenario-based digital learning and toolkits that enable laboratory scientists to:
  • Understand the fundamental science of AIHA, including its definitions, pathogenesis, and the mechanisms of complement activation
  • Master the complete testing algorithm, from initial diagnostic protocols in an HTL setting to the advanced adsorptions and DAT investigations used in a specialist laboratory
  • Apply knowledge to a real-world scenario by working through an integrated case study that requires correct application and interpretation of techniques at each stage
  • Anticipate and mitigate common challenges in testing, informed by key safety insights from  Serious Hazards of Transfusions (SHOT) insights.
