Direct Antiglobulin Test

The challenge

The Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT) is a highly complex procedure where errors, in both performing and interpretation, carry severe consequences for patient safety. It is therefore imperative to ensure that all laboratory scientists possess a consistently high level of competency and confidence when conducting this critical test.

The solution

A blended mix of digital learning and toolkits that enable laboratory scientists to:

  • Understand the clinical significance of DAT testing, including the potential causes of a positive result and the consequences of errors

  • Execute end-to-end DAT process with precision, from accurately processing incoming requests to achieving high-quality test results

  • Interpret DAT results accurately across different methodologies, including Column Agglutination Technology (CAT) and traditional tube tests

  • Apply critical thinking to manage complex scenarios, check initial hypotheses and navigate anomalous or unexpected results
